With the French... read more windows wide open you could see the whole bay and the wonderful blue of the Aegean was quite mesmerising from dawn to the early hours of the night. The room was relatively simple but very clean. Not much provision for hanging or storing clothes,although the room itself was spacious so we left a few stacks of clothes on chairs. No great hardship on what was basically a beach holiday. The daily rate was very reasonable so we weren't expecting luxury. Ionna,the owner,was very helpful and changed the sheets and towels a couple of times during the week. The location is just a few minutes walk from the town centre and a 5 minute bus or car ride from our favourite Havania Beach which is mainly frequented by charming Greek couples and families of all ages.We will definitely return to Melas when in Ag Nik again. The only disadvantage we found was the noise from the road between the apartments and the sea if the windows were left open at night. However,the double glazing cuts out this noise and the rooms do have air conditioning. We found that we did get used to the sound of the traffic below and thought that the view alone made Melas a very good choice for us.

Room had everything you need, it is in a good location very close to the center of Agios Nikolaos and to the beach. Owners are really polite and helpful, in general very good value for money for high season in Crete.

We woke later that morning to a picture-perfect sun rising over the island in the distance and to the most astounding sea view we have encountered in all our years of holidaying and traveling to the wonderful island that is Crete.
Our spacious two bed apartment was furnished with lovely authentic Greek furniture, cooker, kettle, coffee maker, fridge, wall mounted flat screen television, the beds were very comfortable, with a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. An iron, ironing board and hair dryer are also available free on request. The air conditioning (again free) worked perfectly although seldom used due to the constant gentle sea breeze whilst sitting on the balcony or sleeping with the mesh doors closed and glass balcony doors open, there is nothing better than drifting off to sleep listening to the lapping of the waves at night.
We have stayed many times on the island of Crete and whilst all of our stays have been very enjoyable, our stay at MELAS hotel – apartments stands out for the standard of cleanliness of the accommodation, the helpfulness, kindness and hospitality of the owner and staff, the location, and that sunrise & sea view!
